The 1975
The 1975
Electronic Countermeasures worked with Seven Design Works to create the vibrant minimalist video world encompassing The 1975 for their 2015-2016 tour. The show utilizes over 20 individual LED video surfaces that were used to create an immersive world of light and video with single point and multi-point perspective visual constructions informed by James Turrell and Olafur Eliasson. Electronic Countermeasures, created the animated visuals using conventional 2D/3D digital tools, live action footage, procedurally generated patterns and structures, along with a heavy reliance on their deep knowledge of abstraction and minimalist art. This unique stage was designed by LeRoy Bennett and Tobias Rylander of Seven Design Works with LED and lighting being supplied by VER. One of the key goals for creating the video for this stage was that it needed to look great and photograph equally well from all angles both on axis and off axis. In order to achieve this Electronic Countermeasures utilized d3 Designer to evaluate their looks in 3D space prior to the onsite tech in the UK. The resulting show is a visual feast that sets the stage for The 1975’s eclectic blend of pop rock for a Tumblr generation. The tour went on to garner the coveted Knights of Illumination Award and sell out both The Forum in Los Angeles and Madison Square Gardens in NYC.
