Depths - Soundscape by Kerstin L. Hovland, Programming by Emery C. Martin
Depths, is a sonic landscape created from found sounds originating from domains alien to our terrestrial existence. Recordings were sourced from unexplained sounds from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)’s network of deep-sea hydrophones and NASA’s Kepler Space Telescope, Juno Spacecraft, and Cassini Space Probe. The artist processed each recording to tease out the underlying harmonics and rhythms present in each sound source and wove them together into a meditation on the absolute darkness in the depths of space, the depths of the ocean, and the depth of knowledge we’ve yet to attain.
